Well, for the e2046 contest, I retook some pictures of my Yoko. And when I saw Don (Gluefinger/Resinmonkey)’s photos; I wanted to experiment with a dark background and dropping the brightness of some of my pictures. I used the lowest ISO setting of 50 and increased the shutter speed to 1/150-1/200 or so.
I’m very tempted to grab that opensource canon mod so I can use an even wider range with the custom photos. And finally, I wanted to test out the gallery function that came with the latest release of wordpress. Click the more link for the pictures.
Hmm.. interesting gallery feature, the interface is interesting, I’m wondering how if there is a way to set specific gallery names and such, or will it just upload the entire gallery every time I add new pictures.. some more experimentation is needed….
Hmm.. I’ve come to the conclusion that I do not like the gallery function. Going to edit this to remove the gallery. The lightbox mod isn’t used, and it opens up to another post.. it’s just too convoluted.
I like the darker background Gam. I dunno, it makes the kit seem more vibrant and to me, highlights some of the best parts of the kit.
I’m really not a fan of the lightbox function. My usual habit is to open the images I want to view in new tabs (and allow them to load in the background whilst I’m reading the main page), then tab through them at will, zooming them as needed (high resolution = small images sometimes).
The lightbox stops me from opening images in tabs, and takes over the entire page, stopping me from reading the article whilst the opening animation plays and the image loads, and does this with every image.
Hmm.. interesting point. When I look at my page, and bring up pictures for reference on forum replies and such, I usually right click and have the pictures open in a different tab.
I guess I like the whole lightbox thing because it keeps the pictures loading in the same page space and I don’t have to continually click back. It is a sense of elegance to the navigation.
But yes, I do see your point, when the goal is to read the page and have the pictures load elsewhere.
Wow, so you’re taking part in the e2046 comp this time as well? Good Luck to you Gamera. I was thinking about it for a while, but I didn’t have the confidence to go through with it in the end.
I hope you do well!
You definitely should have entered! Regardless of skill, I think such competitions help promote the hobby. Granted, it is hosted by a company that sells recasts; this is in support of the hobby. I’m sure there are a few entries that are originals. They have a pretty good showing of competition and I tend to learn things. I’m no where near good enough to match up with some of the folks that enter their contest, but I look at it as an experience builder.
Some of the comments from the forum members are also very helpful. Hopefully you’ll enter their next contest :D
