So I’ve been playing a good amount of RockBand in the past few weeks since I exposed my best friend and his family to the game. And a few weeks ago, I grabbed a couple of Avenged Sevenfold songs for RockBand; Afterlife and Critical Acclaim. My previous exposure to Avenged Sevenfold was from Guitar Hero II with Beast and the Harlot. Since downloading the songs a little over a month ago, I haven’t really played them until recently. A7X is an amazing friggin band. Below is a youtube video that is the official music video their song A little piece of heaven:
One of the model building guys is really into A7X, and most of my exposure to the music was him playing and failing the song through RockBand. So yesterday as I was cleaning my workshop room, I grabbed their last two albums, City of Evil and Avenged Sevenfold, and started playing it in the background. I am stunned. At first glance, I figured the band to be a fairly heavy metalcore genre of music. I am quickly corrected. In fairness, their first two albums are more metalcore focused; however the last two albums are less. I found myself listening to a good number of the songs, as I found them to be rather lyrical. it has been a while since I listen to what I would consider “newer” music. I have a very wide range of music that I enjoy such as Zeppelin, the Beatles, Elvis, Stone Temple Pilots, Classical music, Sinatra, etc etc. And listening to A7X, I get a good mixture of different genres that I enjoy in a single song.
Normally, I can listen to the first couple of bars to a song and decide if I like it or not; I cannot do the same with a good number of A7X songs; as the transitions to different vocal styling, tempo, and even genre styles make it very difficult to judge the song based solely on the first few notes. I find that I also enjoy listening to and reading the lyrics; as much as the music. I hope that more A7X songs start appearing on RockBand in the future. I am definitely looking forward to their next album.
Below is a fan made music video that that takes elements from the official. The lyrics are funny as hell. And particular song has a very Broadway musical quality to it. Definitely worth listening to a couple of times. Damn good band.
Edit: here are the lyrics for those that cannot quite hear them completely clearly:
Before the story begins, is it such a sin,
For me to take what’s mine, until the end of time?
We were more than friends, before the story ends,
And I will take what’s mine, create what
God would never designOur love had been so strong for far too long,
I was weak with fear that
Something would go wrong,
Before the possibilities came true,
I took all possibility from you
Almost laughed myself to tears,
(Hahahaha!)
Conjuring her deepest fears
(Come Here You Fucking Bitch!)Must have stabbed her fifty fucking times,
I can’t believe it,
Ripped her heart out right before her eyes,
Eyes over easy, eat it, eat it, eat it!She was never this good in bed
Even when she was sleepin’
Now she’s just so perfect I’ve
Never been quite so fucking deep in
It goes on, and on, and on,
I can keep you lookin’ young and preserved forever,
With a fountain to spray on your youth whenever‘Cause I really always knew that my little crime
Would be cold that’s why I got a heater for your thighs
And I know, I know it’s not your time
But bye, bye.
And a word to the wise when the fire dies,
You think it’s over but it’s just begun
But baby don’t cryYou had my heart, at least for the most part
‘Cause everybody’s gotta die sometime, we fell apart
Let’s make a new start
‘Cause everybody’s gotta die sometime (yeah)
But baby don’t cryNow possibilities I’d never considered,
Are occurring the likes of which I’d never heard,
Now an angry soul comes back from beyond the grave,
To repossess a body with which I’d misbehavedSmiling right from ear to ear
Almost laughed herself to tearsMust have stabbed him fifty fucking times
I can’t believe it
Ripped his heart out right before his eyes
Eyes over easy
Eat it, eat it, eat itNow that it’s done I realize the error of my ways
I must venture back to apologize from somewhere far beyond the graveI gotta make up for what I’ve done
‘Cause I was all up in a piece of heaven
While you burned in hell, no peace forever‘Cause I really always knew that my little crime
Would be cold that’s why I got a heater for your thighs
And I know, I know it’s not your time
But bye, bye
And a word to the wise when the fire dies
You think it’s over but it’s just begun
But baby don’t cryYou had my heart, at least for the most part
‘Cause everybody’s gotta die sometime, we fell apart
Let’s make a new start
‘Cause everybody’s gotta die sometime yeah
But baby don’t cryI will suffer for so long
(What will you do, not long enough)
To make it up to you
(I pray to God that you do)
I’ll do whatever you want me to do
(Well then I’ll grant you one chance)
And if it’s not enough
(If it’s not enough, If it’s not enough)
If it’s not enough
(Not enough)
Try again
(Try again)
And again
(And again)
Over and over againWe’re coming back, coming back
We’ll live forever, live forever
Let’s have wedding, have a wedding
Let’s start the killing, start the killingDo you take this man in death for the rest of your unnatural life?
(Yes, I do.)
Do you take this woman in death for the rest of your unnatural life?
(I do)
I now pronounce you…‘Cause I really always knew that my little crime
Would be cold that’s why I got a heater for your thighs
And I know, I know it’s not your time
But bye, bye
And a word to the wise when the fire dies
You think it’s over but it’s just begun
But baby don’t cryYou had my heart, at least for the most part
‘Cause everybody’s gotta die sometime, we fell apart
Let’s make a new start
‘Cause everybody’s gotta die sometime yeah
But baby don’t cry
Good Call Gam. Seems like a damn good band. The Music Video convinced me to give it a shot.
P.S. I can’t get “little piece of heaven” off my playlist now
The lyrics for ” a little piece of heaven” are awesome.
Makes me think of Elfman/Boingo… Awesome!
