Treasure Island Again

Today, I hit treasure island with a couple of friends. However, I was only able to dive for a total combined time of about 20 minutes, and I had about 1.5k lbs of air left in my tank. The guys I was diving with were having problems. One had mask problems which was leaking water, and another was just getting tired trying to follow me towards the reef. I got in a few pictures as this was the first time I got to dive this spot during the day. We got in right at high tide and there was a very strong surge in comparison to previous dives at this location. But I did manage to get a few decent pictures. THe first picture which is the picture above is my first snap of a Nudibranch which is a marine snail. The actual size of the animal was about 10 mm or so; very small, but damn cool to see. (more…)

Sunday saw a boat trip out to Catalina Island. We did a total of three dives, the first dropped us to about 70 ft, and we dived for about 30 minutes. The second was spent mostly between 20-25 feet or lower and the dive ended up lasting 53 minutes – so far the longest dive we’ve done on our rented 80 cu ft tanks. The last dive saw a bunch of lobsters hiding in the rocks and lasted about 45 minutes.

This past Saturday (September 29th) the girlfriend and I dived Treasure Island. Friday night we went to scope out the new dive spot, right off Westley Street behind the Montage Resort and Spa. The waters looked incredibly calm and the cove looked so inviting. The next morning, we got there around 9 AM and walked in full gear for about a quarter mile to the second beach entry point. The reef started a couple of feet off the beach.

SCUBA dives 11-14

There was a storm that hit Southern California this past weekend, so our diving plans for Saturday got derailed, so we went today (Sunday). We originally wanted to get up at around 5 AM and head out to Laguna, but attempts to failed so we ended up sleeping for another two hours. After lazily getting out of bed, we put all the gear into the car and headed out. I guess the storm has some residual effects as the waves were pretty strong; however we were able to enter and exit on our two dives just fine.
