Dry aging steaks at home

A little over a week ago, while in bed watching late night tv, I stumbled upon a good eats episode that focused on aging steaks at home using a porterhouse steak. I trust Alton Brown, and from his shows, I have yet to be pointed in the wrong direction, so I kept the idea in the back of my mind. Then, an opportunity presented itself, and off to the experimentation we go. So here we are with another installment of cooking with Clem. Below, I will explain how the steak in the pictures went from bright red to a very dark red in a span of about 9 days by dry aging the steak.

Coincidentally enough, a week prior to seeing the Good Eats episode, one of my friends had asked if it was possible to dry age steaks at home, and if I knew the process if one existed. I told him that I didn’t know, and that it would probably be difficult. Well, a few short weeks later, my opinions about the difficulty is completely changed, and now I know how to dry age my own steaks at home.

Update for the past 5 weeks

So it’s been a full month and a few weeks since I last posted anything. It’s currently 3 in the bloody morning, and that stupid nap I took this afternoon has pretty much prevented me from falling asleep since I climbed into bed a few hours ago. MG GN-X Completed

And she’s done. Most folks following my blog may or may not have known that I was working on this for the past few weeks in my spare time. I kept most of the update on the forums. But nothing too fancy, a quick OOB build. The only modifications I did were to the GN Drive’s LEDs for which I took from an MG Exia kit. The Exia’s LEDs were green, so the original LEDs were clipped and I soldered on some blue LEDs I had lying around. The piston ends of the drive also had some metal beads glued into place to accent the rather bland detailing there. The beam sabers were cut and glued together to create a Darth Maul-esq weapon and the sabers themselves were trimmed and reshaped – then following the Star Wars theme, they were painted with a clear purple ala Mace Windu.

BAKUC 2010

Ok, I need a little background information about BAKUC. So far, from my memory and a brief search, I know the following: Bandai Action Kit Universal Cup (BAKUC) started out as a competition officially sponsored by Bandai for Bandai’s Gundam…
