I haven’t posted all month, and this weekend just had so much going on. There was the rather successful model build gathering, I sorta finished a few projects – but I need to go back and really finish them before I post up final pictures and make a blog entry about them; and there was Valley Con.
I saw a lot of entries that were shown at the nationals, hence the lower than normal picture count. This is normal, as most folks that enter stuff at Orangecon usually enter the same stuff at Valley Con. I sorta have mixed feelings about this. Granted it is a different show, and there are different people that show up at the various events, but as a builder and someone that enters a good number of local contests, it can get kinda boring. I did bring my unpainted Zaku to the event, but the other three kits were new. I’d much rather have something new at each event than tote the same kit to every event. That being said, I have dragged the dark elf to just about every local event – and I guess my excuse is that last year was a fairly slow year for new work.
It’s great to see the same people at all these events – and most of the times, it’s only at these events that I get to see some of these folks; so having something new to talk about would be much more inspiring than discussing the same kit that was talked about at the previous event. I guess this is why some folks only like to enter one local event.
I got to meet another local gunpla modelers. One that is also an excellent sculptor/scratch builder. The Zeta Conversion, PG RX-78 diorama, Zegraim, and blue thingy with an eyeball in the stomach was his. Well deserved wins for his entries. Hopefully he’ll make it out to the build gathering some day, as I’m sure there is a wealth of knowledge that we can gain from him and hopefully show him some of our own tricks and such.
Pictures of the event are here
We also met another couple who are interested in gunpla building and hopefully will come to the next build gathering. They are associated with OtakuFuel Online Anime Shop Good people, and it seems that they got some inspiration at the show, so there is hope that we’re going to grow the local gunpla builders and one that just show up en mass to a contest with a couple of tables worth of competition level gunplas!
Yay! I was so inspired yesterday I ended up cracking open a kit when we got home. ^_^ I want to learn how to do all the sanding and painting stuff – I think it will look way better. So count me in for the next gathering, I still have a long ways to go. ^_^
