Lobster Season Opener @ Catalina Island

This all started Friday morning as I was taking my friend to the local dive shop to get his personal gear as he’s taking the open water PADI certification course the following week. My dive shop guy tells me that tonight’s boat trip out to Catalina Island for the lobster season opener has open spots as a few folks dropped out, and wondered if I would be interested. The cost is 125, so I had to mull it over a little. I had never gone on this trip, but had wanted to; as well as I’m only an open water certified diver, however, I do have the necessary experience as I’ve done several night dives, and have well over 50 dives to date. So I thought about it while my friend picked up his gear. When he pays for his stuff, I tell the shop guy that I’m in, and pay for the trip. The view as we leave Long Beach.

September’s Model Build Gathering

Model build gathering and a gunpla fort. This past weekend was the monthly model build gathering. And for those lucky to show up early enough, they got first pick through a literal wall of gunpla – roughly 200 or so kits. They were all mostly built – snapped and some painted, but hell, free kits are free kits, anything can be taken apart and rebuilt.

Diving for Scallops

This past Saturday, I decided to go diving for some scallops, as folks were coming over to drink and play rockband. Originally, I set my alarms for 6:00 AM but completely slept through them and woke up a little past 8:30. I got up and headed out towards Laguna Beach. The sky was cloudy, but by the time I reached the beach, it had cleared up and was shaping up to be a very nice day. I got to the treasure island dive spot and geared up. I brought the camera along in the case I see something interesting, I wasn’t out for photography, but to get scallops, so the photography will be limited.

Labor Day Weekend: Down by the River

This past weekend was Labor day weekend, so a few of the model building friends and some of their friends set out to Arizona for a weekend of drinking, shooting, gambling, and water sports. One of the model building guy’s parents have a vacation house cross the river from Needles California that was built last year, so he invited us out there for the weekend.
