There are two events happening this weekend! On Saturday, October 3, 2015 International Plastic Modeler's Society (IPMS) Orange County is holding their annual contest. There are usually about 400-500 models entered into this competition each year. Back in 2003, this…
Here’s a quick spotlight on a technique that was discussed and joked about in last night’s TGG & Friends broadcast. The conversation about the technique came up because one of the participants was working on this technique and recently, another participant used the technique. The technique is not difficult in the least, and is pretty basic. It just plays off the use of contrasting a flat finish and a gloss finish with a single color. One of the guys called it the “clemstriping” effect and ended up becoming a running gag during the broadcast. I’m positive that someone else has long ago done this, so it’s nothing new, but we got a nice little laugh from it. Here are two examples of the technique; and hopefully after this posting, we’ll see many more examples.
Last night’s TGG & Friends Live Broadcast:
Our broadcast is set for every other Tuesday, so the next live broadcast will be Tuesday October 6th.
5 years ago, I built a Gouf Custom conversion kit using the Gouf 2.0 frame and the resin conversion kit from Neograde. Looking back, it was a fairly quick build that took only about a month, but then again, I think I spent quite a few hours in that month working on the damn thing: Progress Page. I added in an LED in the head that was completely self contained within the head and wrote a quick tutorial for that as well. And the pictures below were taken from the completed page.
For the past several years, this kit has been on display at one of our local gunpla shops. Some of our fellow model builders have sold their kits to collectors via this shop, so I put a little price tag on the kit as well. There have been some incidents that have resulted in some damages to kits in the display case because of a fairly large earthquake and some sun damage to paint. But so far, the kits I’ve placed in the case have been fairly lucky. At least until recently, and the luck has run out.
This last month has been a busy one; and time is flying by so fast; where the hell did summer go? Oh yeah, I spent a week in Santiago, Chile, it’s winter down there; but still, time seems to be on fast forward. We’re about 2 months away from this year’s Southern California Gundam Model Competition! Are you ready?
This is our 5th year of the competition; and with that, we have a much bigger venue. So for those that have attended previous years’; THE VENUE LOCATION IS DIFFERENT THIS YEAR!!!
I’ll try to cover everything about the contest in this post, so this will be pretty long. But to make things a little easier, I’ll have the bookmarks below that will click to the specific topic area.
We also do a Live Gunpal Building broadcast bi-weekly (every other Tuesday at 7:00PM PST) And we have a broadcast scheduled for tonight (September 8, 2015 @ 7:00PM PST) So feel free to ask any questions about SCGMC during the broadcast.
