Current SoCal Wave Heights

Some helpful information for scuba diving in southern California. This stuff is important for dive planning. To optimize the best times for diving, I visit various sites to calculate the best date and time to hit the water. The first place I visit is a local Laguna Beach dive shop’s website that sends a diver out to check conditions and then posts the daily conditions on their site: Laguna Sea Sports’ Dive Condition Page

Weekend Update

The weekend was fairly low key. Some friends came over to hang out on Friday and Saturday. I went out and picked up a pressure pot to help my mold making and resin casting. The pressure pot will help squeeze out air bubbles in the mold and resin and hopefully result with the molds and resin casts parts in higher quality. I was originally planning on hitting up the slow dive boat out to Catalina, but I used that money on the pressure pot and other things. Additionally, the boat dive to Catalina pretty much takes up the entire day from 5 in the morning until about 6; I had other things that I needed to do on Sunday. So a nice morning dive took care of the itch to swim with the fishes. Hugo and Beanie tagged along to the beach.

Back in the water… hooray for SCUBA!

It has been almost a full year since I last dived Laguna Beach, or off the coast of California for that matter. So on Saturday, I had my first dive of the year. It feels damn good to be back in the water. The conditions from earlier in the week were amazing. The water was as still as a lake, and the visibility was about 30-35 feet. I hoped the the conditions kept up for my dive on Saturday. The conditions were fairly good. Not the 30 feet that had been posted earlier the week. The surf was kicking up a bit, so it was a little surgy but not bad. Visibility was very nice. Temperature on the surface was about 85 or so degrees. Not too bad for the middle of January. Temperature at the 25 feet was 56. I had a hole in my glove so my left hand was a little cold. Enjoying my first day back to diving, I decided to go again today, Sunday. Below are pictures taken from the top and from the water.

Much Love and Respect!

I am bloody tired right now, but as I start this, I have a little under 3 hours left before I board my flight home. My last post was written as I sat at the terminal waiting for my flight out to Jamaica. I had the option for internet service, but it was $14 a day or 40 for 7 days. Thinking about it, I was on vacation, and figured that the world wouldn’t end if I dropped off the radar for a few days. I’m pretty happy that I didn’t start twitching and suffer from internet withdrawal. Grab a chair folks, this is gonna be a long ass story as I retell the transpiring of the past couple of days.
