Scooby is not even a week old and I’m already doing mods…

Okay, so they’re not overly difficult mods, but some basic mechanical skills are required. Earlier in the week, I ordered some HID kits for the low and high/day time running lights. The more expensive WRX models came with them standard. The HID kits are about $60 bucks for kit that includes 2 ballasts and 2 bulbs. Not a bad price. I also ordered a cold air intake that is stickered for legality under the California emissions. It’s the AEM kit. I saw it at the dealership’s parts department and they wanted 270 for it and would have given me a 10% discount, but after taxes, it would have just been about the same. So I did a little research online and found a place selling it for 230 with free shipping, they were in Cali, so I got to pay taxes, but they just happened to have a 10% off labor day sale, and after all was said and done, the thing cost 223 with tax. So that was ordered and it arrived today, the light arrived yesterday. Here’s a before and after shot of the engine compartment replacing the old air box with the cold air intake.

Hollywood Bowl with John Williams and a Subie convert….

A weekend of staying cool at Yuki’s, hanging out at Angel’s parents place, lunch meetups and the Hollywood Bowl with John Williams. As well as a conversion from my co-dependency on Toyota made cars, yes, we know they call them Scions, but they’re ultimately Toyota’s.

August’s Model Build Gathering

This past weekend was the model build gathering. This was at Funaka’s house this month, so I got some time to deal with errands and such that were unavoidable. I also got into a fun little accident a few houses from Dan’s, but all parties involved are fine, with the exception of my car. So out of the 4 years I’ve owned the damn thing, I’ve had it in the body shop 3 times, the week I got it, last year, and this year. That bloody Scion FRS can’t come out soon enough. I snapped a few shots when I got to the build gathering. Brandon’s working on his RC Tank, Sean’s in the spray booth spraying all the individual pieces for his MG Gouf 2.0 kit he’s been working on, and the house is full of people. Good thing I arrived when I did, Tony and his crew showed up and every chair and table I brought was put to use. I got a new figure kit pinned and later in the evening, a few of us worked on the base for the GM diorama.

Weekend Update: HWB with Rodrigo y Gabriela and GM Dio Progress

This was a busy weekend. I didn’t get much work on the GMs done this weekend, only a few sessions of paint, but I did get some decent amount of work prior to the weekend. This weekend was spent doing errands, at the Hollywood Bowl, and cleaning my garage. I managed to collect about 20 gallons of motor oil from years of doing oil changes, those were removed and taken to the local auto parts shop for disposal. Empty boxes upon boxes were flattened out and taken to the local recycling center. The garage is amazingly reorganized now.
