Grimgerdie Commission: A quick 7 day project

A little over a week ago, I picked up the 1/100 Grimgerde as a commission project. The customer sent an email to me back in early March asking if I could build and paint the kit straight out of the box. The kit wasn’t released yet, so the project waited. Late April, the kit got released, but I wasn’t able to get my hands on the kit until May 14 when the local sources got the kit in stock. We had a build gathering, so it was the perfect day to start cutting, sanding, and snapping the kit together. I didn’t finish the job at the build gathering because things generally degenerate to food, drink, and for this past gathering; hanging out around the fire pit roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. Twas a good build gathering.

I got about this far at the build gathering:

SCGMC 2015 is only ONE Month Away!!!

It’s now one month away from SCGMC 2015! We are very excited because it’s our 5th year, we have a huge new venue, AND there’s the 1/144 city diorama theme. It will be damn cool to see all the dioramas put together to create one giant 1/144 city. We’ve got Feddy and Zeon shirts for sale on this site for the past several months but as an added special only available at this year’s SCGMC, we added a new shirt that is Char themed. The red Char shirt will ONLY be available at SCGMC 2015 and we only have a limited number of these shirts. During our bi-weekly broadcast, the guys teased that we would announce something special for SCGMC this year, and one of the comments screamed something to the effect of, “Great, now TGG is going to do a P-TGG thing”. The price for the Char’s shirt is going to be the same as the Feddy and Zeon shirts. But again, there will be limited numbers and only available at the show. We have sizes from Small through 2XL.

After a year long break, returning to the Water Front

Motivation, inspiration and other ation-esque terms sometime fades away as a project progresses for a host of reasons. This project was chugging along last year and just stopped cold. It sat on my workbench and just occupied the space for a good while before I came to the realization that I did not want to work on it. I boxed it up and shelved this for a little over a year. I recently revisited a 7 year shelved kit that has since been shelved to get some quicker little projects completed. This happens. Interests wanes and sometimes, it is best to just put something away in hopes that someday, the interest returns and the project gets completed.

The first set of pictures was where I last left off. I had started getting the main base piece together. I had cut a hole out, glued some mesh in place. The idea here is to use a picture of some GMs I had previsouly built, and place the picture under the base to create an illusion that there is an underground element to the base. The wood base is built up with some balsa wood sides. This was about where I stopped last year; I had some work on various pieces and there was no mental execution plan for the project.

GM’s Can’t Swim

This is an experiment that didn’t go too badly. I learned a great deal from this experience, granted the end result isn’t all that great, it’s not that bad. It is however, a 1 lb resin paper weight now. The next time I try something similar, it will definitely be in a much smaller size and the planning should be vastly improved. But I do like the final result. This is something I’ve not see too much, so I wanted to try it. I had finished this right before Orangecon 2014 and like everything else, just haven’t had the time to snap some final pictures.

Full gallery after the jump.
