Weekend update and December Model Build Gathering

It was a decently busy weekend. I went to my friend’s mom’s house and learned and made a bunch of tamales of different flavors. I’m finally started up on my latest project that I actually sorta started a few years back when I first bought it, but shelved. Then there was the build gathering. This one was very interesting. And whilst I tell the story later, I will definitely come off as a complete asshole, but you just had to be here to fully understand and grasp the big picture. Regardless it was another great gathering. At the end of the night, we piled up all the guitars, for a group picture. I’m sorta cheating, as the left handed, ultra dusty, guitars are mine… but at least I have some variety in that there’s an electric, acoustic, and classical guitars. And unfortunately, I had forgotten to snap pictures during the gathering, but I did snap a few things off my phone, a little too late however.

RGM-79SPC Sniper Custom Completed

I finally got off my ass to finish the sucker. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working very slowly to finish up the weapons and final touch ups on the kit. There was Thanksgiving, then there was that stupid Assassin’s Creed game, not the new one mind you, the old one that came out several years ago; yeah, I got suckered into it while watching a friend of mine play Assassin’s Creed 2. Regardless, I was able to slip in some work on the kit now and then. The benefit of having long stretches of time between clear coats and paint drying is that it allows for the paints and clear coats to fully cure up. With the weapons completed, the kit is thrown together and pictures are taken.

Sniper nearing completion and Model Build Gathering 29

Saturday was the 29th model build gathering. We made beef koobideh for the grill, and with rice, humus, and flat bread, we had a fairly successful Persian dinner. I got the pastel weathering done at the build gathering and the main sniper kit is completed. I still need to finish working on the weapons and the kit will be done. Duke’s getting bigger, he’s almost as long as Hugo now and but of the three dogs, still the shortest.

Charlie and the Disneyland Trip; Slow Sniper Progress, and Mars

Work on the sniper is slow but continues; somewhere in the middle of all this is a trip to Disneyland, and picture of Orion and Mars taken last night while Helen and I were out way past our bed times watching the Leonid meteor shower. The sniper is coming along, but visible progress is very slow as the techniques used in the finishing and weathering processes need time to cure with layers of clear protecting subsequent layers. But the results and ease of which each layer is applied makes the wait all the more worthwhile.

Charlie decided to surprise me for my birthday by showing up without letting me know she was coming. Thanks to Angel, Nicky, Helen, and Brian who all knew of the plan and helped execute it, I got a nice little surprise Thursday night. My normal schedule had me off the following Friday, however, we had a deployment at work and I was needed, and we were working late. So as with most plans, things never go as planned. I haven’t been to Disneyland in years; so it’s nice to see a few subtle changes here and there.

Last night was also the peak of the Leonid meteor shower, so Helen and I trekked up to Anaheim hills near the Weir Canyon park to gaze at the sky. A very clear night, we saw quite a few meteors. I brought the tripod so that I could take some night photos. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to snag any of the meteors streaking across the sky; but I got some nice pictures of Orion and Mars. We didn’t get home until 2:30 AM.
