Wow, another post another build, the new Hasegawa Glaug kit!

So yeah, I didn’t think I’d get another kit built this year after those two Corsairs, but here we are. I cracked open the Hasegawa 1/72 scale Glaug kit a little over a week ago, on Oct 3rd. Playing around with the first part of the build, it seemed very nicely engineered. The leg and feet were a crap ton of parts and the engineering was damn nice.

They engineered it so there were no long seams along the leg. The clear red pieces could be assembled after the whole leg was painted as well since it’s not glued together for seam fixes. Here’s a quick video of the leg engineering and mobility.

Having built the old Arii/Bandai 1/100 Glaug kit over 20 years ago, I’m pretty damn impressed. This was also roughly a week long build; so there are not too many progress pictures, but you get the idea. (more…)

And then there were two

Look, two F4U Corsairs!

I was fairly close to finishing the 48th scale Corsair about mid September but never really got around to posting anything since I moved right into working on the 72nd scale kit; or rather, finishing what I started on the 72nd. I did drag my feet for about a week or so since I really did not want to take the time to work on the seams and redo details. But I ended up finishing both kits so here’s the final processes done for the 48th first.

Getting right into the work we got the decals for the kit. They are pretty thin and delicate and I ended up breaking a few, but nothing a little pushing and pulling won’t fix. And in some cases, some paint and weathering to hide things.

It’s a plane! An F4U-1D Corsair to be more specific

Long time no post, but since I have this on my bench; why not. I started working on this two years ago after getting inspired at my local IPMS club’s annual contest with the intent that I’d get this done for the adjacent IPMS chapter’s following competition and this was 2 years ago in around Oct 2023. I actually started two Corsair kits, a 72nd birdcage and the 48th 1D with the intent that I could work on both at the same time. That was sorta true up until things just got simpler if I focused on one kit first. The last time I built an airplane kit was probably 35+ years ago when I was a wee lad. I’m pretty sure I built a Corsair back then too; I religiously watched Black Sheep Squadron on TV and loved the look of the wings. Over the years, I’ve collected a fair amount of Corsairs in different scales and from different makers – I just never actually did any work, until 2 years ago.

I’d lost the original pictures I took when I started this so I had to screen shot some posts I made 2 years ago from my Insta account. Apparently I completely built the two cockpits. (more…)

VE-1 Elintseeker Gerwalk – Only took 17 years, 4 months, 30 days – but it’s done!

My first post about this kit was September 16, 2007 when I unboxed and started with a test fit. Fast forward another 7 years to April 2015 for another attempt, this time changing from a straight aircraft build to the Gerwalk. And here we are today, a few months shy of 10 years later. IT IS DONE GODDAMNIT! I actually finished this kit. And I thought my 8 year VP Hi Nu project was long in the tooth. Motivation is actually mostly because of this year’s SCGMC theme (year 2025) which is “Macrotech/Robocross” most of you get the joke. For others, look up Robotech in all it’s storied history.

The old kit was moved several times with workshop upgrades and several location changes. I opened it up every now and again to work on it, mostly the first time and 7 years later, but I wasn’t sure if I still had all the parts. The kit was available, so sometime late last year, I just ordered a new one and started this up at a local build gathering. What is also new is that I now have the Super Valkyrie Gerwalk kits that I can use instead of just the skinny Valkyrie Gerwalk. All that work done 10 years ago is now garbage for the most part.
