Not because I was going to build it, but I figured I could mod it to a Den’an-Zon; my favorite kit from F91. The F91 movie came out in 1991 when I was in High School. I had the original 1/100 kit when it was released in the early 90’s as well. No idea where that kit went, but I think I hand painted it. Well, I never got around to ever building the Gei this past year and a few months ago, the Den’an-Zon was announced, so forever stuck into the backlog will be the Gei. The Zon arrived on Oct 14th and I pretty much opened the damn box and started immediately on it. I figured I could finish by Nov 7 *cough*SCGMC*cough* Formula Theme. The decals were stickers so I ordered some third party ones from a shop in the UK hoping they’d arrive in time during the build.

I really like the look of the Germanesque military helmet/gas mask look. The Formula kits were always scaled down in size in the anime and manga material, so while 1/100 in size, the kits are actually about the size of typical One Year War 1/144 scale kits. Here’s a comparison with the HGUC GM Moroccan Front. Here’s also a comparison with the OG Den’an-Zon 1/100 kit from the 90’s that I build over 20 years ago. Back then I was experimenting with color shifting paints from Alclad and dust and age has does its work on the old kit. Still, it’s a good comparison between the new and old. After doing the panel lines and cleaning them up, the parts again go into the dehydrator; but this time, the guard to the spear gun cracked in two spots. The enamel thinner tends to weaken the plastic, and combined with the heat most likely caused this tightly fit piece to crack. A quick check on all the other parts that were in the dehydrator and everything was fine; only this one part cracked. So the only thing to do is to apply styrene glue to the cracks and press the parts together.
