New York in October

Last week, I was in New York for the New York Comic Con/Anime Festival. I was at the NYCC/AF Friday and Saturday; the rest of my time there was spent with Jason and Claire. I had been to NYC once before in my life, and that was August 2001 when some friends and I drove up from South New Jersey to the original Yankee Stadium to watch a Yankees game. I think I remembered snapping a picture of the New York skyline with my old film camera, I’m sure the picture is somewhere in my pile of photos in a box somewhere in my house. But until then, that was my only experience in New York City.

Side note, this will be long. I mean. I was there for almost a week. Pictures alone are overwhelming. But this post features tourist, scantily clad women, gunpla, and food, so what more can one ask in a blog post? You have been warned…

Anime Expo 2010

This is my post about Anime Expo 2010 from my perspective. I’m one of two managers of the Exhibit Hall, I run 2 works shops and a panel, I run the AX Model Contest, and I’m also the point of contact for the Gunpla World Cup competition being sponsored by Bluefin. So I have a fairly unique perspective on things. And this post basically continues from the my last blog post.

Weekend update

This was another busy weekend with the June model build gathering, meeting with the Gunpla World Cup (aka BAKUC) competition sponsors to hammer out final details, and finally getting to finish up the Mitzuki commission repair job. The build gathering was one of the smaller gathering in comparison to the past few months. It was a nice change of pace, I got to spend some time working on my own projects. Manny showed up and brought along a finished Akatsuki kit that he had picked up from the day that we had 200+ kits donated I think he did a damn good job being his second gunpla kit ever.

Weekend Update: January Model Build Gathering And Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy Chinese New Years! Welcome to the year of the Ox (cow, bull, Moooo – you get the idea…) This month’s build gathering was significantly larger than the previous. The holiday season is over, and people are getting back into the groove of things. We had a couple of new people as usual; and the house was filled. Due to the weather, I didn’t feel like firing up the grill, so we invaded the local “the Hat” with about 21 of us, there were a few folks that left and a few that stayed at the house to build. Getting tables was an interesting experience; as when we first arrived, the place was packed, so we agreed to bring the food back to the house. But while standing and waiting for our food, tables started freeing up, so we started sending people to hold tables. It was fairly successful at first, but then some folks would get up to get their food, there by leaving the table unattended for some other Hat patron to grab; while a few others didn’t fully realize that there were over twenty of us and gave up tables…. Well the debacle was fixed and we had a pretty decent time – I think we ended up taking up just 5 tables. On to the actual build gathering…
